Import OneNOte from one computer to another

I'm getting a new laptop and would like to import all of my OneNote
notebooks from the old laptop into the new onw, but I can't seem to be able
to do that. I thought that just copying folders/files from one computer into
the the other, but it did not.

The folders/files seem to be in the right location, but when I open OneNote
on the new laptop I only see the default notebooks that were created by the
installation.

OneNote is extremely simply to copy. Copying the notebooks like you did is
sufficient. You just now need to open them in OneNote. From the File menu,
click Open Notebook. Then browse to one of the folders. Optionally, if you
have OneNote 2007 you can right click the folder to open in as a Notebook.

Do have the ON-notebooks on the laptop?
Is this your *main* machine?
Do you work with ON on a desktop too (as most ON-Users do)?

I'm asking because only too many ON users are going the wrong way when
working with ON on more than just one computer.
When working with more than one computer one *must*not* have the
notebook-files on more than just one machine. The fantastic
synchronization built-in in ON will not work as it should if the
notebook files are stored in addition to what is sitting on the "main"
computer.

In case you have the data on a desktop computer too, don't copy the
notebooks to your new laptop.
Install ON there and then open the notebook from a shared directory on
the desktop.
This way the laptop will work from the ON-cache and all of your data
will be synched automatically.
