Import problems

I can verify at least that this is not your imagination.
I'm having exactly the same problem with Access 2003, and
you can't even change the field settings for the first
field, much less select any of the other fields to change
them. It's been this way since Access 2003 was released,
but I can't even find anything about it in the knowledge
base.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I am also searching for the 'MS fix' for this to avoid
my work around.

What I have been doing is just go ahead and import the
text file into a new table with what ever Access 2003
decides the fields should be, a quick delete query to
empty the table and then I design the fields in the new
table to meet what I want the data to be (SSN's as text
instead of number so I do not lose the leading zeros
etc), I then reimport the text file into the now
exisiting table. Not the most efficient, but it works. Of
course you can always design the table first, or if the
data is a periodic data dump just copy the structure of
the last import's table.
