Import PST from 2003 to 2007 Issue

Hi,

I have an issue where as I exported my Outlook 2003 emails/contacts to a pst
file. I then on my new Vista PC with Office 2007 tried to import the pst file
using the import wizard. Outlook then gives me this error message when i try
to import my backup "File access is denied. You do not have permission
required to access the file C:\Temp\backup.pst"

I am loogged in as an administrator and I am now really stuck as i cannot
access any of my emails/contacts and any help would be gratefully received.

Is the PST file on a CD/DVD? Try this:
- copy the file to your hard drive
- remove the read-only attribute from the file's properties
- open the file in Outlook using the File menu > Open > Outlook Data File
command
- copy the data you want out of that file into your regular folders

Don't import from the file since there are odd issues you'll get from
importing.

I would expect the experts to say firstly that you shouldn't be using
"import", but should merely "open" the old PST. Secondly, you need to make
sure that the PST doesn't have the read-only attribute set.

The file is located in my C:\temp folder and i have changed all the users
accounts access to the file properties to rule this out and it is not read
only. I then went to open data file and got exactly the same error. Any
further ideas!

For giggles, move the file to your Documents directory on the machine and
retry the open and see what happens

Another thought would be to create a new profile on the Vista machine
(because attempting to import a .PST file almost always corrupts the Outlook
profile in use. Then, on the old machine, locate and make a COPY of your
Outlook 2003 .PST file (make sure Outlook is closed when doing this). Take
this copy to your Vista machine, put it into a folder where it will NOT
OVERWRITE any existing .PST files, open Outlook 2007 with the new profile
and do a 'File|Open|Outlook Data File' to connect it to the copied .PST
file.
