I recently upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003, mostly for stability
issues. My work computer had a weird install history- It had some of Office
2000 Professional on it, and some Office XP on it- kind of a Frankenoffice
2000 XP Anyways, my comp had Excel 2002 (I think) on it, and when I began
importing flat text files from our accounting software, Excel would become
highly unstable. It would crash anytime during the importing process (during
the Import Wizard) or even after the file was imported. I had the IT guy
uninstall this Frankenoffice, and install Office 2003. Excel was running
smoothly until today. I started importing text files from the same
accounting software, with the same results of Excel crashing. We have a
vendor Excel Add-In that was enabled, and I thought that might be the case,
but I unchecked it in the Add-In option, and I'm still having Excel crash on
me. When it crashed the first time, the error message suggested that I check
for updates to deal with the issue, so I found some Office 2003 updates,
which I downloaded and installed. The odd thing is that the available
updates shown were also listing Office XP, which leads me to think that
perhaps the registry might still have some orphan entries from that
Frankenoffice suite. I appreciate any suggestions or comments you might
have. Thank you for your time.
