Import Timesheet Task Missing

J

Jan

I think i've found a bug but want to post the issue and see if it's user
error before i go to Microsoft.

I've noticed that if a resource used the Add Line function in Timesheet to
add a task that was created after the timesheet the new task line doesn't
appear on the import timesheet screen from My Tasks, subsequently the time
recorded on the task doesn't get submitted for approval after all it's
missing, but all the other tasks are there and the PM does get the udpate.

Has anyone else seen this and is there a solution?

Thanks.

There are to my mind 2 possible resolutions.

Get the project manager to publish the project as it may be that PWA cannot
see the new task as the project has not been re-published since it was
added.

Delete the timesheet and then recreate it - a bit of a pain if the resource
has recorded some time already.

I always recommend that timesheet creation is left to as late as possible so
that on creation the "auto-population" of current tasks is as up to date as
possible.

Thank you I apprecaite the feedback.

The task is published and it's listed in PWA and since the resrouce was able
to select it and add it to their timesheet. I also know we can delete the
timesheet, etc. as a work around. I'm also aware of the UID getting out of
sync and have had the project republished, deleted the added line and
re-addded it.

What i want to know is why isn't the task importing from the timesheets all
the other tasks imported just fine. The task added is listed in the
timesheet for the resource who acatully entered time. Where it is not is in
the import list in My Tasks, thus it doesn't get imported, doesn't get
submitted or approved and synced to the project schedule.

I can also see the task and time entered under Approvals/Timesheet under the
option of "available timesheets to adjust"

Is this a reported bug or by design? If it's by design yuk, if it's not by
design where/how do i find out it's been reported/docuemetned.

So found the issue, user related. we do need to change the Line
Classification, good to know.

Jan,

Glad you resolved the issue, it is something I will bear in mind should I
encounter the same issue again.

So you are using additional line classifications, the description of their
application is suitably vague, how are you using them and do you derive
benefit? I have noticed that the additional line classifications can only be
applied to tasks that are added to timesheets rather than being assoicated
with tasks that are "auto-populated".

Dominic,

Thank you. We created our own list of timesheet classfication, using the
add line feature we add the line to track support/non-project related
activity. So our classificaiton list includes Training, Bug Fixes,
Reporting, etc anything we could think of from a support perspective.

We elected to use timesheet since the activity plan function just doesn't
work well in our opinion.

With the separate classifications and entering a more specific name such as
a subsidiaries name we can show how much time we spend supporting our other
companies. Our goal of course is to move toward a chargeback process.

Jan,

Thanks for the insight into how you are using the Timesheet Line
Classification. I am assuming that you are also operating with the option to
allow unverified Timesheet entries. The items you mentioned could be entered
as tasks in projects, possibly team tasks, which would give you the
potential to attach custom fields to them for the level of reporting and
analysis you allude to.

Activity plans are useful for capacity planning but cannot have time booked
to them as you have discovered.
