Import vs. Linked

Hi,

Access 2000, Win XP.

Each week I receive a text file that I import to my Access database, the
weekly file contains around 2,000 records of which each record has data on
40 fields. Although this works okay and the Excel Pivot Table that uses
this information functions as expected, the size of the database is getting
somewhat large. I've read about linking files text files in Access as
opposed to importing but haven't had any luck in doing this and still being
able to use the Excel Pivot Table.

Any advise on this subject would be most appreciated.
