import Word 2003 macros and shortcuts to Word 2007

J

John Paul N.

I had lots of personalized macros and keyboard shortcuts saved in my
normal.dot file in Word 2003. I'd hate to have to recreate them all now that
I have Word 2007. Is there any way to import them?

Thanks!

If you upgraded, Word 2007 should have used your existing normal.dot as a
starting point for creating the new normal.dotm.

If Word 2003 was on a different computer, but you still have your old
normal.dot file, the easiest way [usually] is to put your Word 2003
normal.dot into the folder where Word 2007 stores normal.dotm, rename the
normal.dotm that Word 2007 created (or delete it, since it doesn't contain
what you want it to), then start Word 2007. When it doesn't see normal.dotm,
it will use normal.dot instead, and will create a new normal.dotm file based
on the old normal.dot.

Thanks! I spent a couple of hours yesterday (before your response) figuring
out how to transfer the macros and add styles from my old normal.dot to the
new Office 2007 normal.dotm. Everything seemed to work okay except no
auto-correct. Your was a) better and b) 100 times simpler. Dunno why I
didn't try that first -- i guess I was scared to take out the normal.dotm
template...

Thanks again!

I encountered that earlier... Is it still valid? All the discussion is of
Word 97 and Word 2000, not even Word 2003, much less Word 2007. Does it
still work?

Try it and see. I believe it does. Many of the pages have not been updated
lately, but most macros still work.
