import word Documents

I have used the import api to bring in quite a few text files. I now have
been tasked with bringing over 100 MS Word Documents. I have tried
converting these to xml and importing but have many errors related to the
formatting Word does to the doc.

Is there a simple way to bring over a large amount of word documents without
"touching" each document?
