Imported Graphic -- Ink Dots In All-White Area

I have a Word document I'm using as letterhead. I've imported the
company logo which is a CMYK TIFF file. The logo has a white
background. When I print the document, however, there are tiny pixels
of ink behind the logo within the entire bounding box of the graphic.
How can I get rid of this?

Thanks.

Probably the 'white background' is not actually white, but a very light
shade of some colour; and the lightness is below the contrast threshhold of
your monitor but not of your printer. You can try fixing it in Word by
selecting the graphic and adjusting the brightness and contrast settings
(buttons on the Picture toolbar). This will be somewhat trial and error:
you'll certainly be able to get rid of the stipple, but there'll also be an
effect on the rest of the graphic, which might or might not be noticable.

The better solution is to use a graphic editor: it will show you exactly
what's going on, and you'll be able to erase the stuff you don't want, or
selectively adjust brightness and contrast.

Thanks for the reply Jezebel.

I double-checked the logo's background using Photohop's Info palette.
It shows 0000 indicating there is no color whatsoever behind the logo,
as there shouldn't be. The original logo was an EPS file which I
rasterized in Photoshop and saved as a TIFF file. In the EPS, there is
no background behind the logo elements, nada. When I pasted it into
Photoshop, the background was the default "White" background. Yet
still, I get the faint "stipple" as you call it.

To confuse matters more, it would appear there's no stipple when I
print off a Mac, only appears when printing on a PC. :/

Go back to PhotoShop and try exporting to some other file formats, such as
GIF or JPG. Also try conveting the background to transparent.

The effect you describe can also manifest if Word's contrast setting is too
soft -- a little white is added to the black; a little black is added to the
white.

Thanks for your help, Jezebel.

I misspoke (mistyped?) earlier in that it's NOT a Mac vs. PC problem.
Just tested to find that it printed out fine from another user's PC,
just as well as from my Mac. So apparently it's either something to do
with the particular PC involved or perhaps a different version of Word.
The problem PC had Word 2003 installed. I successfully printed it
from Word 2004 for Mac. Unfortunatley, the successful PC user has gone
for the day so I can't determine what verison of Word he used to
succesfully print it from his PC. But I'll report back tomorrow!
