imported mailing lists lose contacts

I've tried to import a .pst file into Outlook 2000. The import seems to
work and all the contacts seem to be there as well as the groups that
have been generated. When the computer is restarted all the groups
remain but the addresses that are part of the group disappear. Any
suggestions?

Groups? If you're using groups in the address book instead of Distribution
Lists, they won't transfer. Only DL's transfer. Outlook does not support
address book groups.

My mistake. I did not know the term. That is exactly what is
happening. The Distribution list remains but all the contacts in that list
disappear. Any suggestions?

Do you recall how those DL's were created? Does the Update Now button
restore them?

Hi Russ,

Thanks for taking the time to check on my request! Much of the lists
were created in Outlook Express and imported into Outlook later.
Could this have anything to do with service packs that may have been
applied to Office, the items saved and then imported into a version of
Outlook that has not had the service packs applied?

Not the service packs, most likely just the fact that the lists were
originally created in OE. OE uses a different method for creating groups. OE
groups rarely survive an import into Outlook intact and even if they do,
would not likely survive another import on top of that.
