importers

This is a hook to allow users to create tools to import forms. If a company
had a particular format that their forms were in and wanted to enable their
internal users to import the forms into InfoPath, they could build a
customized import tool. That tool would show up here.

In the SDK, there is a very basic txt file importer just to give an idea of
what is going on.

The website you viewed is an open site where service providers can have
their tools posted for use with the various Office applications.
Unfortunately, no one has developed a plug-in importer yet, so you don't see
any on the website. Several companies, including OmniForm and Texcel, have
standalone form importers.

Well, I would just like to import forms from MS Word.
Does Microsoft not supply an importer to import forms from Word? or Excel?

No, there is no built-in functionality for Word form importing. Texcel's
FormBridge (http://www.texcel.com/) and ScanSoft's OmniForm
(http://www.scansoft.com/) are excellent options for Word forms, and
possibly Excel.

I am in the same situation. There are Word and Excel importers in InfoPath
2007 but none in InfoPath 2003. So I must re-create the forms in InfoPath
2003 since our network is very large and we are not scheuled to upgrade for
another year.

Then there is the requirement in InfoPath 2003 to have InfoPath installed on
all clients who will use the form.

Jack,
The word and Excel importers are a new feature in InfoPath 2007, as such
there is no equivielnt functionliaty available in InfoPath 2003.

As for your second question, if your planning to deploy your 2003 forms to a
SharePoint 2007 server then you will be able to use form services to render
the form via the web. If not then yes the InfoPath 2003 rich client will be
needed to view the form

Hope this helps

Cheers,
Ben

Thanks Ben.
I sort of figured InfoPath may not be the way for us so I will continue to
use HTML based e-mail forms. We are not due to update Office for awhile and
everything works fine using Office 2003/WSS v2/HTML Forms. I do not
anticipate any issues just by switching to WSS v3.

SharePoint is such a great product (especially the WSS v3).
Thanks again
Jack
