Importing 2003 templates and macros into 2007

I have a series of templates (including a highly customized normal.dot) with
numerous macros created in Word 2003 and earlier version of Word. I just
installed Office 2007 and thus far have had no luck in importing these
templates with their macros. Although the 2003 templates are in a trusted
location the templates open without any macros. How can one open these older
templates with the macros active and then save the templates as dotm files?
Thanks for any advice on accomplishing this.

Open the template from its original location, enable the macros. Save as
dotm in a trusted location.
Only Word can create a normal template so use the organizer to copy macros
to the new template from your old normal.dot. Note that some macros may
require modification to run in Word 2007 ... especially those that make
reference to autotext.

I am sure this is relatively straightforward and I am just being dense.
However, when I open a template it appears to contain no macros, despite the
presence of the macros when the template was used in Word 2003. Thus changing
the trust setting has no effect.

Are you sure those macros were actually in that template and not in
normal.dot?

Thank you, talk about overlooking the obvious. In the immortal words of Homer
Simpson "doh"!
