We have a system that needs to import a Protected Excel workbook into Access
2007 on a regular basis. Our current method is to copy the Excel workbook to
a second copy, unprotect this second copy, and then import the second copy
into Access 2007. This works, but it is obviously not ideal as it requires
manual intervention each time an import is done.
I work for a small company. There is no security guru. I have very little
experience with Windows Security (Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition).
I am considering removing the “Protection†in Excel and utilizing Windows
Security instead. There would be only one person who would have “updateâ€
authority and about 5 people who would be allowed to read the Excel workbook,
but not update it.
This would eliminate the hassles that we have with our current method of
importing the protected Excel workbook.
Is this a good approach?
Are the security settings that I would need easy to establish in Windows
Server 2003?
Perhaps someone can point me towards a website that would help me understand
the basics of Windows Server security.
I know that this is probably a dumb question, but I have no one at work who
I can consult with.
Thanks,
Brad
