Importing a .bmp file

Hi, I am using Outlook and PowerPoint 2003. I have received an email with
an attachment which is a dynamic picture, ie it keeps changing. I want to
bring it into PowerPoint as a dynamic picture. I right-clicked on the
graphic and saved picture to my folder - it is a .bmp file. How can I
import it into PowerPoint and show it as a moving picture? When I double
click on the .bmp file in my folder it is static. I look forward to your

AFAIK only GIF images can be animated, not BMPs. I suppose your mail program
misinterpreted the file extension. Try renaming it to a GIF and then insert
it in PowerPoint. The movement can only be seen in slideshow view.

Hi Ute, thanks for the advice, which I have followed, but still no luck! I
renamed the file to *.gif and note that the file type changed too. I tried
inserting it into PowerPoint as a picture and as an object but no luck - when
inserting as an object from a file, it keeps inserting it as an icon (even
though I did not check the box to display as icon), so I don't know where I
have gone wrong. Any further suggestions?

Is the originial file a gif file? Then save it as a gif file instead of a
bmp. Otherwise, what happens if you use Copy and Paste instead of the insert
function (copy from email, paste into PowerPoint)?

Hi Sandy, the original seems to be a .bmp file because when I saved the
picture (by right-clicking on the graphic) it automatically took on the .bmp
ending. I followed Ute's suggestion but no luck. I have just tried to
copy the graphic from email and paste it into PPT but nothing happened, even
when I tried Paste Special. Is there some way I can get the graphic to you
or onto this site so that you can see what I am talking about? Thanks. Trish

Is it also trying to save itself as "untitled.bmp"?

Maybe you need to empty the contents of the Temporary Internet Files
folder...

the .gif file for me and it all works well. Thanks again for everyone's
