Importing Address Book (from Outlook Express 6 to Outlook 2003)

Hello,

I've always had problems with the Windows Address Book, now the problem is
this....My current WAB is made up of many subfolders, as follows:

-Shared contacts
----My contacts
--------folder 1
--------folder 2
--------etc.

The problem is when I import into Outlook only the contacts in the "My
contacts" folder appear. This is also a problem if exporting the WAB as a CSV
file etc. Any help would be appreciated.

The version of WAB that OE6 is using is 6.00.2900.2869

This is normal. Outlook will import only from the Main Identity's top-level
contacts. You'll have to move everything you want to import into the top
level.

OK, thanks. Does the Outlook 2003 Contacts / Address Book have the feature
of folders that the WAB has? When using the WAB I would go to a subfolder and
select only some email addresses to contact rather than the whole folder. It
seems that in Outlook there is "Distribution Lists" and an email has to be
sent to the whole distribution list unless in the recipients field of the
message window the "Distribution List" is expanded and then the unrequired
addresses are deleted one by one. It would be very disappointing if this was
the case.

It seems that what is a "Group" in WAB is a "Distribution List" in Outlook's
Contacts and it seems that what is a "Folder" in WAB has no equivalent in
Outlook's Contacts. Is this correct? Is there any way round this e.g. stand
alone software or plugins?

YOu can certainly have more than one contacts folder in Outlook. Thet can

along wth the Contacts folder.

So , it seems that I can't do what I want in Outlook. I found the following
in offline help under "About distribution lists":

"You can send a message or meeting request to part of a distribution list by
clicking the plus sign (+) next to the name of the distribution list to show
the individuals on the list, and then deleting the names that you do not
want. Distribution lists in the E-mail field of a contact cannot be expanded."

I have to select all of the list and then delete the ones I don't want,
rather than just select the ones I do want from the DL (as I can with the
WAB).

Please confirm that I understand correctly.

I haven't used groups in the Windows Address Book in years, so if you say
that's the way they work in the WAB, then I'll confirm you're understanding
appears complete.
