At 81 years of age and mere novice in this technology I need help to be able
to transfer all my email contacts address files in Outlook Express on my main
PC, (Windows XP), to the Microsoft Outlook Mail program on another PC (a
Samsung lap top I have just purchased) using Vista Home Premium.

You have to move your msg store & address book from the old PC to the new
PC, then make it available in Express, or Mail, before you can then export
msgs from Express/Mail to Outlook. Then in Outlook you import the address
book.
http://www.insideoe.com/ should give some hints on transferring your OE
stuff to the new PC

Did you get any good help on this matter? I have a very similar problem
except that I am going from OE on an ME machine to Outlook with Vista on a
new laptop. Help.

You import your OE messages into Windows mail on Vista as follows. Copy ALL
the mail files from OE (including the one called Folders.dbx) and paste them
into a folder you have created on your new machine, to which you have
read/write permissions. A folder within your Documents folder would seem to
be the best place.
Then in Windows Mail, do File-Import-Messages, highlight Microsoft Outlook
Express, and click next.
Make sure that "Import from an OE6 Store directory is checked, (that's why
you need to copy the folders.dbx file, because that tells WM the folder is
an OE message store) and click on OK. Browse to the folder you created.

You then EXPORT from Windows mail to Outlook.

You then copy your Windows Addressbook (WAB) from the old machine to the
new. I'm not sure whether the Import function in Outlook will import a WAB
from OE without OE being present. If not, import the WAB in Windows Mail,
then export as a CSV file, which Outlook can import.
(You may be able to sidestep the middle step if you can export the WAB
directly to a CSV file on the old machine).
