importing after using Text to Columns

I exported an Access table to Excel.
Used 'Text to Columns' to split one column into two.
Looked fine.
Saved it.
Imported it into Access as a new table.
Column is back to the way it was.
It was as if I had never done the 'Text to Columns'
Don't know what to do.
Any help???
