Importing an Editable File

Hi

I am trying to import some Org Charts from a Macintosh into Visio. I can save the org charts in all sorts of formats on the Mac but when I import them into Visio, they come in as a picture. I need to be able to edit each block of text. Is there a way to do this? (I can save the org chart on the Mac as a JPG, TIF, PDF, BMP, etc.

all of the formats you mentioned are binary images, thus not editable data.
You have to either work with some form of metadata (pictures and text) or
real data (the org wizard will read M$ excel files). Unfortunately M$
removed CSV import at V2003.

As Al Edlund indicated, a metafile import is essentially your best option.
Unfortunately, as I myself found out a while back, this will necessitate
some cleanup on your part. Metafiles do not support every feature of every
object.

I have been pestering Microsoft for over a year now to incorporate org chart
import/export, particularly for Powerpoint (an obvious app to me). I can
see the benefit to Microsoft in including support for related apps, since
this *may* induce some users to stick with Visio once they've migrated their
data. Hopefully this need will be considered.

Hey Bill,
Can you save the Org Chart as SVG? What software are you using to originally create the org charts? Illustrator and Corel Draw will save to SVG; Freehand will not.

If you save to SVG, then Visio 2003 will open them as vector and you will be able to edit your text. Bye, bye raster formats!!
