Importing and exporting outlook contacts

M

Mark

I've just installed a Outlook 2000 on a new labtop and
want to move my contacts from the old machice.

On the old machine, when I click File from the menu bar
within the address book, I see the Import and Export
choices but they are greyed out. I've tried to reinstall
Outlook but I still don't have access to the Import export
choices. I also see the same problem on the new machine,
where the import export choices are greyed out, so I must
be consistantly not installing correctly. I'm just
interested in a simple move of addresses, no email. What
am I missing in the install process? Thank you.

The Address Book is just a view of your Contacts Folder. It holds no data
and you can't manipulate data there, so those functions are grayed out.
You manipulate data from Outlook. Exporting is not a good idea. Just create
a PST file and copy your Contacts into it. Then open that PST file in the
other installation.

Finally - someone has explained what is the difference
between the Address Book and the Contacts. I suspected
it was so.
Now, how do I get my Contacts to be the 'main'(?)
information. I use Outlook 2000 with my Palm Pilot and
my Palm syncs with the Address Book, not the Contacts,
where all the details of my information are located. Any
ideas how I can get it to sync with my Contacts instead.
I tried to reinstall the palm software, thinking it would
ask me if I want to use the Address Book or my Contacts.
I know in some installation that question is asked...
only who knows where?

Not possible.
I just told you there is no address book in Outlook, so your Palm could not
by synching with your Address Book. It can only synch with the data in your
Contacts Folder.
Explain your evidence to the contrary. Your question may need to be directed
to the manufacturers of your synching software.
