Importing Assignment Work into Project from Excel

Our labor estimates for projects are initially developed in Excel. The
spreadsheet contains tasks, total work, resources, and assignment work. I
would like to be able to import tasks, resources, and assignment work into
Project 2003. Currently, I am able to import tasks, total work, and
resources, but I cannot find a field to import the assignment work into.

I have gone through the trouble to determine how to import multiple
resources into a single task, but each resource's respective portion of the
work (assignment work) is eluding me. For example, a 30 hour task (total
work) can be completed by employee 1 (resource) working 10 hours (assignment
work) and employee 2 (resource) working 20 hours (assignment work). We need
to be able to track this level of detail, so relying on only total work is
not a solution.

Each row in the spreadsheet represents one task, with multiple resources and
their respective assignment works. The total work is summed from the
collective assignment works.

How can I import multiple resources with their respective assignment work
directly into Project 2003 from Excel? Is there an import field for
assignment work in Project 2003?
