importing contacts from excel to outlook 2003 - zip postal codes

Is there anyone who could tell me why my outlook 2003 is unable to import zip
codes starting with letters ?

I don't have a problem with numbers but all the zip code field with letters
are imported empty...

thanks for any suggestion...
