importing contacts from excel to outlook

I've recently created a centralized address book using
excel and saving it in a .csv format for everyone in our
office to use. Everyone now has a standard list of
contacts to start with. My question is, can I have
outlook 2000 look to a master copy of this list so that
updating our contacts is more efficient?

One idea I had after playing around in visual basic was to
create a public folder in outlook that everyone could
access, then send them all the link, no programming and it
sure is easier that some other ways.
