Importing Data from Project to Excel using MapEdit

I want to initiate the MapEdit function from Excel to import data from
a Microsoft Project file into and Excel spreadsheet.

Can someone explain how to use and the advantage of using MapEdit when
importing or exporting data?

I've seen some subroutines that use this function but I do't fully
understand how it works. All explanations are appreciated!

Thanks!

This is what I see as the pro's and con's.

+ It is simple. Just set up a map and that is it.
- Not as flexible as writing your own export routine.

For some examples of exporting without MapEdit see my site

Thanks for the info Jack! I'll check out the macro that you have on
your website.

I've seen lots of other macros that export from Microsoft Project to
Excel (i.e., "push" the data into an Excel spreadsheet). What I am
trying to do is import the data from Project to an existing
spreadsheet (i.e. "pull" the data from Project into Excel). Can I use
these export macros from Excel or possibly alter them so that they can
work by pulling data rather than pushing data?

What function(s) use an import/export map? I know how to create one,
but I don't know what to do with it after I'm done.

Thanks for the information you've given me! Any additional information
would be greatly appreciated!

Absolutely. Simply set the value in project (for example task.duration) to
the value in the excel sheet rather than the other way around.

File / save as and File / open are the only two I know of.
