Importing Data into User Defined Fields

Is there any way to import data into the user-defined fields I have set up
for my Accounts? I am trying to import data from excel. If I allow
duplicates, then I get new Accounts for every entry in the excel file. If I
don't allow duplicates, then nothing imports and I get an error log. How can
I tell BCM to simply update the user-defined fields that I have mapped to my
excel file?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

The only import type that allows merging of duplicate records is
importing from BCM files. Because those use unique identifiers, BCM
can be confident that the duplicates really are duplicates.
