Importing dbf files from Microsoft Works

John from Jersey

I would like to import into Access 2003 a dbf file that was created in
Microsoft Works. After reading the Office Assistant in Access, I should be
able to select FILE, GET EXTERNAL DATA but it is greyed out. The Office
Assistant also talks about obtaining ISAM BDE Drivers. Does anyone know how
I can import this dbf file into Access?

Have you opened an MDB, or created a new one, in Access before attempting to
import the data? The 'Get external data' menu command is disabled when no
MDB is open.

You may not need any additional drivers. I don't use Works, but I do have a
copy of Works 7 on this PC. It appears to be able to export to dBase III and
IV formats, while my copy of Access 2003 appears to be able to import dBase
III, IV, and 5, without (as far as I can remember!:) installing any
additional drivers.
