importing Excel 2003 pro 'custom format' into Access 2003 pro data

I have a large Excel spreadsheet that I want to import into access. It will
have approx 2500 reocords. Each record has a number that in Excel is a custom
format 000-000-000

When I import it into the database it drops the leading zeros (which each
reocrd has at least one, but most have two) I have formated the database to
the 000-000-000 format but that only makes it easier to retype the numbers.
Is there a way for me to import one custom field(Excel) to Access without the
leading zero dropping off?

Thank you

Julie

OK GREAT, that solved my leading 0 problem, but it does not display the
dashes, my number should look like this: 009-500-001, but it looks like
009500001, how to display the dashes, plus my next post above mentiones that
some of my numbers have letters in them and this does not allow them to be
displayed either. any help there would be great. Thank you for the reply.

Access should show them.

And please don't use a sig separator if you don't bottom post as it
strips prior quoting.

I was wrong, it only took the dashes out of the ones I have hand entered and
left the rest. I did not scroll down to see the ones I have yet to re-enter.
back to the drawing board.

I just realized I am not posting in the Access Section, should I move my
query over there?

You may do so, if you wish. Those folks would have more Access specific
knowledge. But what ever you decide, please stick to one thread, as I
see you have a second thread on the same topic in this group.
