importing excel file into visio

My supervisor and I are very new users of visio. And we are checking about
using the wizard to import an excel spreadsheet into visio.

My supervisor believes that once you do that, the excel and the visio
flowchart are linked and when I right clicked the shapes a spreasheet/excel
comes up.

I think they are not linked unless you embedded them, and once you import
the excel, what happens is that the data will be changed/formatted into visio
shapes/flowchart.

Can you please let me know who is correct? or If once imported I can linked
the excel into visio and once make changes into the excel it will automatic
change into visio?
