Importing Excel worksheet into Contacts folder

All,

I exported someone's Excel file into a CSV and then
imported it into a newly-created Contacts folder
(subfolder of the default Contacts) as CSV windows. I
mapped the fields and it all seemed to come in correctly.
But, when the user tried to use the contacts in an email,
our server returned an email with everyone's email (both
internal and external addresses - 13 pages worth!) having
been returned with this error msg:

The format of the email address is incorrect. Check the
address, look up the recipient in the Address Book, or
contact the recipient directly to find out the correct
address.

I went into the properties of some of the Contacts' email
addresses and it was SMTP (which is correct). I don't see
any extra spaces, commas, etc. (although if I did, I would
think it would say that it was undeliverable because it
didn't recognize it).

Can anyone shine the light for me?

What happens if you try to use one of these imported contacts in a message?
Does the address resolve?

Sue,

Yes, seemed to resolve itself and send it out with no
problem. Then, it immediately returned the error msg from
the server.

No, Anna. I let Sue know that the addess does resolve the
message does go and I didn't hear anything else. Sorry.

What's the message that the server returns? What version of Outlook is this?

You know, it could be that there was a single wrongly formatted address (or
a handful) in the imported batch and when you used them all in a message, it
was kicked back because of just that one. You might have to go through them
all with a fine-toothed comb to find the culprit.

Or, instead of using all the contacts in one big message, use them as the
data source for a Word mail merge and send individual messages. That will
probably flush out the culprit quickly.

The message is as below and it came up specifically for

Version is 2000.

I will look at the addresses and see if there are any
problems. Thanks for your suggestions.

I don't think I'll be able to send individual emails -
these are clients and they may not appreciate the "test"
messages. Also, the owner of the Contacts may not allow me
to do it (he's very particular about what goes out to
them).
