Importing & Exporting using Excel & Filemaker Pro

I upgraded to Filemaker Pro 7.0v1a last week. Before the upgrade I
had been able to import Filemaker files into Excel. I can see the
file I want to import, but can't access it and it's dimmed.

I upgraded to Excel 2004 at the recommendation of our on-site computer
assistant. I still can't access the Filemaker Pro file, I can see
them as before, but as before they're dimmed.

I looked at old Filemaker Pro files and I can still import them, so it
seems to have to do with the Filemaker update.

Yup - Filemaker Pro 7 has a different file format. I suspect the new
format wasn't available early enough for MacBU to include a driver in
Office2004.

If you want this feature in MacOffice, be sure to both post here, and
send feedback via the Help/Feedback on Excel menu item.

Meanwhile, save your Filemaker files in the older format.

I've run into the same problem, so this info has been very helpful.
Unfortunately, I have checked the Filemaker Web site, and it's clearly stated
that Filemaker 7 files cannot be saved into earlier Filemaker formats, so
there's no going back. We can only hope that MS will not take too long to
update Excel 2004 to make it able to speak with FMP 7.

I've sent a suggestion on to MS.

In the mean time you could export from FM to .CSV and import it as a
text file in Excel.
OK - it is not what you want to do but as long as Excel 2004 cannot
import directly...

I too was disappointed when I upgraded to FMP 7 and discovered that it
would not "speak to" Excel X (and now Excel 2004). Hopefully fix will
come shortly (but I doubt it!).

If I export the neceassry FM 7 data to SYLK, then drag and drop the
SYLK (symbolic link) file onto EXCEL 2004, all is well...Not at all as
elegant as the way things were pre-FMP 7.x, but nevertheless, quick
and clean.

[If you do the same export from a FMP solution again and again, a
simple FMP export srcipt will make all this even simpler...]
