importing external data from text file erroneously converts text d

Here's my suggestion: learn how to develop good products again.

you guys took so many steps backwards with this version of Office - it's
pathetic. Here's my import-specific rant: I have data in a text file. Some of
these columns are text fields, though they look like numbers, complete with
leading zeroes. Your idiotic "get external text file" no longer allows me to
specify that the data in question is text.

Check this out: I am even importing this data into a predefined table INTO A
TEXT FIELD. And it STILL DROPS THE LEADING ZERO FROM MY TEXT DATA.

I suppose one of the MVPs here is going to suggest that my data shouldn't
look like this, which would be typical. The data in question is a US Army ID
code for equipment - which is alphanumeric and frequently has leading zeroes.

I'm so sick of all the changes you made to make Office usable by the least
common denominator (see: non-customizable ribbon) and the bugs you missed
(see: trying to scroll thru slides in powerpoint using mouse wheel, MS Word
asking you EVERY TIME if you are sure you want to save a document if "track
changes" is checked, etc.).
