Importing Fields into Enterprise fields

Sam

Hi,

I am currently using Project Server 2003,and am trying to customise the
Enterprise global template,so that it changes the colour of milestones when
the Finish date varies from the baseline finish date.
I have done this previously in a non server based environment by using a
formula in "Flag 1" field and then in the Gant view you can create a new row
to and add the flag 1. milestone comdition and formatting in. Enterprise Flag
one is not avaiable in the Gant view and you cannot customise normal fields
in Enterprise Global. I have tried to use the "import field" function, but
it does not seem to work.

Can anyone help?

Sam:

You need to customize the Enterprise Task Flag field before it's available
in the Gantt chart view. What you need to do is checkout the Enterprise
Global, select an task-level enterprise flag field and rename it. Save and
close the Enterprise Global and exit completely out of the application.
Restart Project and you'll now see the flag field in the available fields
list. You can not, however, customize standard fields within the Enterprise
Global, as you have discovered. Local field customizations are on a per-plan
basis. To reuse these you must store them in your local global.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for your response.
I had tried this previously, however when you right click in the gant view>
select bar styles> add row as I have done before and added a new row, the
drop down list does not contain "Enterprise Flag 1" in the drop down list.
There is an option to import a custom field when you go to
tools>customise>enterprise toolbars - and you can select "Flag 1" to import -
though when you hit ok nothing seems to happen. Any ideas how either this
could be used, or how the bar styles menu can be modified so that "Enterprise
Flag 1" is within it's lookup table??

Thanks

Ok, I see what you're trying to do. I think your best bet is to embed this
into your Enterprise Templates and require that PMs initialize projects from
these templates.

Hi,

That would be the intention, what would be the best way to embed this as I
dont seem to be able to reference enterprise flag 1 in the gant
customisations.

Thanks )

I'm suggesting that you continue to use the local flag field. If you put
this into your project templates, it will replicate itself across your
projects. This is not something you're going to be able to tuck into the
Enterprise Global.
