Importing from Eudora

M

Mark D. Chapman

I have used Eudora for years but I like the idea of having my calendar and
my email integrated. However, I cannot effectively import from Eudora. When
I import my messages Entourage truncates some of the larger mailboxes and
when it gets to my filters (rules) Entourage crashes. I have a large number
of rules because of the volume of mail I get so this could be a show
stopper.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get my messages and rules into
Entourage successfully?

Forget Rules.

If you really can't import Eudora messages, go drag your Eudora mailboxes
out of wherever they live in Eudora. I believe hat Eudora Mac still uses the
..txt extensions for these (Eudora Windows uses .mbx). Whatever. Change them
all to .mbox. Most likely you will see them take on Apple Mail's large gawky
rural mailbox icon, rather than Entourage's. If so, control-click one of
these, select Get Info. In the Get Info window select Opens With and choose
Entourage. Now click the Change All button in the same window and click OK.
Now all ,mbox files will have Entourage icons. Drag in the files to
Entourage (or double-click them) - each will become a mail folder.

You may find a whole lot of blank messages - don't worry. That's just a
peculiarity of Eudora - you're not missing anything and can delete the
messages.

Thank-you. I now have all my mail in Entourage

Does ³Forget Rules.² mean that I am unlikely to get my rules from Eudora to
Entourage successfully?

In MacOS, Eudora mailboxes have no extension but they are of type TEXT and
creator CSOm.(good old fashioned resources).
