Importing from Excel Error

Hello,

I have an Access 97 DB to which I would like to import
data from an excel spreadsheet.

I made sure that everything was lined up properly in excel
(columns, rows, formats, etc).

I then proceeded to File>Get External Data>Import.

I followed the wizard so that I can import data to an
existing table.

Upon pressing 'Finish' I received a message saying that
there is an error and the data was not imported.

I have gone through the "Import Error Table Messages"
troubleshooting guide provided by Access 97 Help and
nothing seems to work.

Your insight would be much appreciated.

i can only make a guess

In which Excel version is the file saved - newer than 97, same or older? Could be that Access doesn't have the appropriate file filter installed. Try to save your file as .csv in Excel and import the .csv File. If you get problems with the field types and field delimiter, change the filename from*.csv to *.txt then you get an import wizard where you can select the field types and delimiter
