importing from excel file

hi..

currently trying to import account data from excel file.
works in the main but there is no automatic (least i can't get it to work)
linkage between primary contact and the actual account.

i've tried importing the primary contact as a name on it's own directly into
accounts, but nothing shows.
tried importing contact then account data with prime contact name in both
but no likage.
is there any way to accomplish this
