Importing from Excel

I recently purchased a Sanyo cell phone that can connect and transfer my Contact database telophone numbers into it. I have my entire personal telephone directory stored within an Excel (Office 2000) spreadsheet. Each time I try to import the Excel data I get the following message: "An ODBC error has occrred in the Microsoft Excel translator when opening a file to build a field map. [Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver] Too many fields defined.

What can I do to remedy this sitution?
