Importing from one Project Server 2007 to another

I have created 2 servers, one for test and one for live.

My Project Managers have 'played' with the test server and now want to move
over the data. When I try to backup their data, Sharepoint/Project tells me
that my backup is 40GB in size.. not bad for a server only using 5Gb total
disk space!

To avoid a direct import/export of what clearly appears to be corrupt data,
I'm trying to save the Projects that we want to keep as files and then import
them on the new server using Tools > Enterprise Options > Import Project to
Enterprise.

This appears to work fine. As I've duplicated all of the resoucres/users
manually, I'm able to map them and the import says it's sucessful with no
errors. However my users are saying that they do not have any assignment or
approvals on the projects i've imported, even though they work fine for new
projects created.

Have I missed something simple here? Any advice would be appreciated!

They seem to work fine on

When you import the new projects, did you publish them using File - Publish?

When i compare the live and test servers, both sets of users have the same
assignment owner.
