Importing from Outlook Express for Windows

Recently, I "switched" one of my clients from the Windows world to the Mac
world and Entourage 2004. His Windows email program was Outlook Express 6.

On the surface, everything went smoothly. I used the Windows version of
Eudora to import his mail boxes from Outlook Express; copied the .mbx files
to his Mac; renamed them with the .mbox extension; and imported them into
Entourage. While several of the messages were instantly readable, a great
many of them can only be viewed only if the View/Source command is selected.
Many of these messages appear to be nothing be plain text when viewed in
Eudora on his Windows computer.

What happened? Is is "fixable?"

Interestingly, I found a solution to my problem that involved another step.
Out of curiosity, I left the .mbx extension on the Eudora for Windows files
that were created when I imported the Outlook Express files from Windows
into it. Next, I imported the files in Apple Mail (Tiger version). I was
pleasantly surprised to find out that every message was readable. Then, as a
final step, I imported the resulting Apple Mail files into Entourage where
they remain readable.

So, the process turned out to involve four email programs - OE for Windows,
Eudora for Windows, Apple Mail, and finally, Entourage 2004.
