Important distinction needed here:
Do you wish to save an "image" of the letter, or do you wish to covert
the image into "text."
TEXT is searchable, editable, etc. while IMAGE is not.
If you merely want to save a copy (an IMAGE) in MS-Word, you Insert
image into the opened MS-Word document. I often save the IMAGE when
there are drawn lines, signatures, etc on the page.
If you want TEXT, then OCR as described below is needed.

Can someone give me a simple process for importing a document, such as a
letter, from my Canon Scanner to MS Word? I've reached the point where I
have saved the scanned document as a .jpg File.
