Importing images into e-mails

Tim Richards

I¹ve noticed that graphics attachments (JPEGs or PDFs) sent by Entourage
from my Mac (OSX Leopard) show up immediately in e-mails without the
receiver having to open the attachment. However, this only seems to happen
on Macs, not on PCs.

For PCs I¹m told you need to INSERT the image into the body of the e-mail
rather than send it as an attachment. I can do this OK with PDFs by setting
ŒFormat¹ to HTML, which enables the INSERT function in the ŒMessages¹ menu.
However when I click INSERT PICTURE, the JPEGS in my folder are greyed out
and I can¹t select them.

Doesn¹t Entourage support JPEGS? I find that difficult to believe, but I
can¹t add JPEGS to the scrapbook (in ŒTools¹ menu) either, which would have
been useful...

Entourage 2008 will not show jpgs in the message if they are over 400kb. I
suggest saving in a different format.

Thanks for that info. Which format would you suggest? Perhaps PDF?

What is the best way to send a graphic so that it appears in the main body
of an e-mail on both Macs AND PCs, without the viewer having to open an
attachment? I have tried inserting a PDF by changing Œformat¹ to HTML and
using the ŒInsert - Picture¹ command, but on a PC they still have to open
the PDF to view it.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim!

Have you tried reducing the size of your JPEGs? You can lower the
resolution to 72 dpi while keeping the height and width the same.
Viewing on screen should be about the same.

Hope this helps!

Save as .gif, .tiff or PDF. You could compare sizes saved in different
formats to see if one is smaller.
