Importing in to Access 2002

when importing from an Excel 2002 spreadsheet (*.xls) in
to an Access 2002 database I am unable to import data
directly in to an existing table (option is greyed out)
and must create a new table.
I have tried using text tab delimited files and this
gives me the option but my data won't format correctly in
a text tab delimited file.
Am I doing something wrong or is this function no longer
supported?

Have u tried saving your *.xls as a comma delimted *.csv file? This works
with all the data I work with. I found that you can't import from a .xls '97
file to access 2000 either.
