Importing large JPEG files

Is there a way to keep the file size down (and speed the processing) while
using imported JPEG files in Visio? Seems that Visio reverts JPEG
compression back to larger bmp during use and saving?

Visio 2002 and earlier saves all imported images as bitmaps. Visio 2003
leaves imported images in their native format.
