Importing Mac Project 8.0 .mpp Files

B

When trying to open these files, Project 2000 says they're
an older version which needs to be translated by Project
98. I bought Project 98 on eBay and it also fails to
successfully open them. I loaded a file utility called
Conversions Plus 6.0 and it sees the files as Mac Project
8.0. I'm probably searching in all the wrong places, but
I cannot find a way to open these files in Project 2000 or
98. Do I have to buy a Mac?! Anybody have any similar
experiences?

Bill,
No, but I'll go you one better - I have a Mac. I'm not sure what it is
trying to tell you when it says the files are Mac Project 8.0 because
there "ain't no such animal". The latest and last version of Project for
the Mac is Project version 4.0. If you don't mind sending the files over
the internet, send them to me (via e-mail, not through the newsgroup)
and if they are not corrupted, I should be able to open them, and get
them into Project 2000 for you.

John
P.S. You should be so lucky to have a Mac :)

Thanks for the incredibly nice offer, John. If the files
weren't so sensitive to our client, I'd be home free right
now! Thanks for the Mac-info, though. I'll try to find a
more recent file conversion utility. It appears DataViz
ceased development on Conversions Plus 3 years ago which
would help explain the bizarre association.
Project 2000 itself says it is an older version which
Technet says Project 98 should open and convert. Project
98 says, "Hunh?"

Bill,
All isn't necessarily lost, write me direct. I was disappointed when
Microsoft Project abandoned the Mac community so I am anxious to help
those who were left standing.
