Importing MS Access contacts database

M

Marty

I have a large and nicely working MS Access database that
I use to track family and friends address and personal
data. Outlook 2002 will not import my E-mail data no
matter how I 'customize' my field-to-field import requst.
My E-mail field in Access is a simple text field - like
my home-address field - which imports fine...
What's the problem and solutions?

What happens when you try to import? Have you tried exporting from Access to an Excel or csv file?

I am having the same problem. Randi, who posted on 1/22/04, is also having the same problem. I am trying to import from Access, Excel and CSV. If I play with the import mapping I can get the entire e-mail address imported into another field, company name for example. Of course that does me no good.

Outlook version? Exact steps to reproduce the problem?

Outlook 2002 (10.4219.4219) SP-2
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.26 SP-1 Build 2600

Steps:

File >> Import and Export

The wizard box pops up.
Choose import from another program or file <<Next>>
Choose Microsoft Access or Excel depending on what I am importing <<Next>>
Browse and select the file <<Next>>
Select Destination Contact folder. This is a newly created contact folder <<Next>>
I will either finish or I will map the fields. I have tried it both ways. <<Finish>>

I have tried exporting a test folder into both access and excel and see what data types get exported. Outlook exports the e-mail address as a text data type. The file I import is a text data type.

Hope this gives you an idea.

And what's the actual problem? The newsgroup interface you are using
apparently does not quote earlier messages in the thread, making your latest
message so short on detail that you risk not getting the answer you're
looking form. Please take the time to quote the original message.

Please, please, keep all the information about your issue together in one
message. You may be reading these groups with a web interface that lets you
see all the messages in the thread, but not everyone else does, especially
those of us who read hundreds of messages a day.

I am sorry if I have confused you. This is the entire history of my problem.

Only the first letter of the E-mail address is imported into the contact folder E-mail field.
I am trying to import from Access, Excel and CSV. If I play with the import mapping I can get the entire e-mail address imported into another field, company name for example.

I am using the following
Outlook 2002 (10.4219.4219) SP-2
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Version 5.1.26 SP-1 Build 260

Access 97 and 2002 Excel 200
I have used the following Steps

File >> Import and Expor

The wizard box pops up.
Choose import from another program or file <<Next>
Choose Microsoft Access or Excel depending on what I am importing <<Next>
Browse and select the file <<Next>
Select Destination Contact folder. This is a newly created contact folder <<Next>
I will either finish or I will map the fields. I have tried it both ways. <<Finish>
