Importing MSA Data into MSP

K

Ken

A question to all you vets :)

I am in a postion that forecasting is being done in MS
Project. Actuals are being generated from our accounting
system and is available in MS Access.

Is there any way to update MSP tables (Actuals) with the
data from MSA?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is a way and are was. Achieving it will involve design and
development. The databases underlying Project are open and published.
There are also various ways you can save Project (mpp, Access mdb,
database server, etc.)

However, you need to be especially careful that you know and understand
how to properly insert data. See the file projdb.htm file installed with
Project (best way is to use Window's search to find this file).

There is another way if it's ok just to get the data into MS Project for
comparison. You can use the Import Map function to open data from an MS
Access table and merge into your projectfile based on a merge key. So if you
have som ID's in Number1 or WBS in MS Project. You have a table in Access
with the same key and a column with totals you can do File Open and select
ODBC. Point to the Access file and you will go through the process of
creating an import map. The map can be saved for later refresh.

If you need actual values into the Actual columns / timescaled data you need
to get a lot more programming done unless you go through ProjectServer.
