importing outlook contacts

i had my contacts in outlook xp on a laptop, backed up in
a pst file. that machine was stolen. now i am trying to
import them into an old machine with outlook 2000 pro. it
can't read the file. (and i tried to read the file on
another xp machine and got errors, too)

any ideas?

error says that the pst is not compatible with this
version of the information service.

Are you certain you exported from Outlook 2002 and not 2003?
Exactly how did you create this file?
