importing pdf file into Access 97

Does anyone have any tips for importing a large PDF file
into an Access 97 table?

Hi Paul,

Do you mean a table contained in a PDF document?

If so, the best thing to do is to get the creator of the PDF to send you
the data in a more malleable format.

If you have the full version of Acrobat and the PDF file allows it, you
may be able to export the data to a text file. Otherwise, the options
include

- copy and paste (page by page) into a text editor or word processor,
tidy up the layout, and import into Access
- feed the PDF to an OCR program to convert it into an Access-friendly
format. Some modern OCR software can "scan" PDFs directly.

I tried the cut-and-paste approach but the column breaks
don't translate to txt which makes importing a beast.
Perhaps the OCR might work - do you have any suggestions
of specific software?

Paul,

I believe that current versions of Omnipage, TextBridge and Abbyy
FineReader can all "scan" PDFs from disc, but check before you buy.

There's a time-limited evaluation version of FineReader that one can
download (or at least there was a few months ago). Maybe the others
have one too.
