Importing PDF graphics

Has anyone found a way of persuading Word X (or _any_ Office X
application) to import PDF graphics as anything other than a blurry
low-resolution image? AppleWorks supports importing PDF via QuickTime,
but Microsoft seem to avoid using this capability in their software.
