does anyone know what's the best format to use so the pc user can view
logos....i'm trying to save logos from illustrator (mac--can be cs,
10, 9, 3 etc) for our friends on the pc side of things....i would like
them to use vector art instead of jpgs....but what i tried so far
doesn't seem to work.....does anyone have any exprience with this??

jpgs will work but they have a white box around the image hince they
couldn't use it on top of a color etc....

thanks for the help!

You get quite a few flavours of eps with preview from Illustrator. One
of them should work.

If you must use bitmaps, you will need to choose a format with
transparency. Tiff or PNG arae a good bet. If you plan to print the
results, don't skip on the resolution - 300dpi or above.

On any of those formats, watch out for the Word bug that prints the
low-res preview on Mac at least, particularly to PDF and non-Postscript
printers from eps on the Mac. The trick is to print to a Postscript
file and then let a capable program finish it off.

The only proper way through the mess is test test and test.

If you use EPS it must be in RGB format at not greater than 24 bits colour
depth with a WMF or TIFF preview. For preference, use the WMF preview, that
way they will get a high-res result regardless of whether or not they have a
PostScript printer.

If you want a smaller file, export to WMF or EMF format. While EMF is
technically better, you would need a magnifying glass and a 4800 dpi printer
to spot it.

For bitmaps use TIFF, GIF or PNG to avoid losing resolution. Again:
Microsoft Office components cannot handle CMYK colour, so ensure you send
RGB.

Always send the original source file as well as a document with the picture
embedded: if they munge the document they will need the source file.

Cheers
