Importing Preferences from Mac 9 Office 2001 to Mac X Office 2004

I bought a G5 with OS 10.4 and bought Office 2004 to go with it. My
old System 9 computer files are all on an external hard drive,
including Office 2001. When I installed Office 2004, it didn't
automatically look for the preference files associated with Office
2001, so all those elements I painstakingly built up in Word
(templates, styles, preferences, etc.) are not incorporated into the
new Office. How can I import them? I can't find any information about
this anywhere.

Here are the instructions for Office X and Office 2004, for Word.
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/BackUpPrefs.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Word 2001 is closer to Word X, so use that chart to find the files you want
to switch over, and the Office 2004 chart to see where to put them.

Differences--Word 2001 has preferences in the System Folder, not in
~/library/preferences, and it will say (9) at the end of the file.
Otherwise, I think everything is pretty much the same.

You can't move the actual prefs file (to transfer the settings for the
Preferences dialog), but most other customizations you can recover. Read
the whole article, even though it talks about X and 2004, the principles are
the same for Word 2001.

I'm not so sure about the other programs, but that link will give you the
info to shift over custom templates and global templates for them, anyhow.
