Importing project from Open Plan to MS Project

Suzanne

Hi,

We use MS Project Professional 2003 and a subcontractor has said there
schedule will be created/managed using "Open Plan". Does anyone know if I
could import direct from Open Plan to MS Project and how I would go about
this?

ie. we do not have open plan, therefore will the subcontractor have to
export to another format before sending to us or would we also need open plan
to enable transfer?

Thanks!

Suzanne,
I've heard of Open Plan but know nothing about it. I suggest you find
out what file formats Open Plan supports. Project can import a variety
of formats (check the Project Help file for file formats supported by
Project - this list may change if you installed the SP3 update for
Project 2003). If you're lucky, each application will have some common
ground.

Hope this helps.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. Searching the web yesterday, I have discovered that
it is possible to transfer data between Open Plan and MSP, however others who
have tried this before said it is complicated and they experienced scrambled
data. Sounds scary for our purposes, so will look at another work around.

Kind regards,
Suzanne

Suzanne,
Who exactly said it was "complicated"? I would ask them to elaborate
before I write it off.

Hi John, my source was an old post from another forum. I can live with
complicated, but need consistency in the data and have therefore sidelined
this for the time being based on others experiencing 'scrambled data'.

Thanks.

Suzanne,
OK, but if you have a subcontractor that IS going to use Open Plan it's
not quite clear how you can ignore it for to long. Did you ever actually
check which formats Open Plan supports? Even though it may not support
something that Project can open directly, there may be some common
ground.

However, I do understand your concern about consistency and stability.
I'm going though a similar weighing in process on an drawing/CAD
application myself for the iMac platform.
